I'm looking for free, XP-compatible software with unlimited use without adware/spyware for each of the following:

1. A program similar to winzip for creating and unzipping .zip folders. As a side note, I can't create zipped folders on my own because they're incompatible with my login name, which contains special characters.

2. A solid video editor that doesn't cause the video to lag. If possible, I'm looking for one that's compatible with .flv files.

3. A powerful image editor like Photoshop that uses layers.

4. A way to have print screen automatically save images to a selected folder so I don't have to paste and save them in Paint every time.

5. A media player with AB repeat comparable to GOM that can handle .mov files with sound. GOM can play .mov videos but without sound.

6. Image, music, and video converters that work with major formats.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Roger,

I have used ClipDiary for years. Not very pretty but does the job well. Collects everything you Cut or Copy. Shows them to you and has several ways to use them. Just click them to paste is easiest. Available from softvoile.com/clipdiary/. There are also many free progs of the same type.

Good Luck, Jim

PicPick can save screenshots to a specified directory, among many other features. It does ask to install the Ask Toolbar.

AVIDemux may be a good video editor.

Switch is good for audio conversions.

Not sure there's anything better than GOM Player.

Those are the ones I've tried. But iWisoft has been recommended for video and audio conversions. For me, the best resource for freeware reviews and reccommendations is http://www.techsupportalert.com.

Heck I'd just get a maintream linux distribution and you'd have just about everything all ready to go.
