I am looking for a free alternative to Adobe Reader that included similar commenting and editing features. Is there anything out there? Thanks in advance.

per licensing reasons, you will not find a free pdf editor with every single feature the full adobe acrobat has.

That's what I was beginning to conclude, makes sense.

The main thing I'm looking for is the ability to draw arrows and other shapes and attach comments to them, like you can in Reader.

The reason I'm looking for an alternative is because some of our field editors report that Reader sporadically changes file permissions to no longer allow commenting. Then they have to request a new pdf and start over. Maybe I can attach a sample page tomorrow.

@joeten, thanks for that last link. Looks promising.

For anyone looking at this thread in future, I found that PDF-Xchange Viewer is perfect. The free version actually has most of the features of Acrobat Standard.
