i have a brand new foxconn 661gx7mj-rs board w/512 mb ram and a 2.53 ghz celeron d processor w/a 20 gb maxtor hd everything is brand new except the hard drive which i know works cause i am using it as i write this... but when i hook the hard drive up to the foxconn board it wont boot... why? everything is wired correctly i checked 3 times and yes the ram is compatable and inserted correctly

The computer is looking for your old motherboard because if you didn't prepare the hard drive in advance, you have a new motherboard, but an old motherboard set of chipset drivers on the hard drive. Therefore, most likely you will need to do a repair install to get it to work. When that is done, you will have to install both the new chipset drivers and SP2 again. i tried that it didnt work now i need to reformat the hd cause i got a bsod while installing windows...any suggestions?

Let's walk through your setup:

How do you have the hard drive set up with the new board? Primary, Secondary?

What is on the same ribbon cable as your hard drive? Give types and names of drives.

How are the jumpers set for each?

Where on the ribbon cable is each set?

When we get this done, then we will know more about possible issues.

hard drive is primary .... jumper is set to master nothing is on the same ribbon as the drive. its a diamondmax seriers 40 gb maxtor drive and its on the main connector of the ribbon... hope this info helps

And, is this drive on the END connector of the ribbon cable?

yes the correct end....also i ran the reformat disk i had at a relatives house hooked up to a different pc and reformated it but when hooked up to my spare pc the keyboard wont initialize during the boot process so i cant boot to the windows xp setup cause it wont recognise keypunches and now the drive is blank and the board still dosnt boot w/it help!

i managed to reinstall xp on the maxtor drive while set to cable select on primary slave on my spare computer also the foxconn drivers are installed but it still wont boot on the foxconn board so i still need help ive tried every jumper setting for the maxtor drive new ide cables, nothing works different video cards, ports etc... nothing works what is wrong with it?

You may very well have a DOA board. From time to time, one can get a bad board even if new.
