Hi There

I was happily browsing away this morning, when I switched off my machine the small "switch off with updates Icon appeared"... Several hours later I turned my computer back on and I can use everything but Internet Explorer 7.0 on my Win XP service pack 2 machine.

I can access sites using the IP only and I thought I had found the answer below, however I do not know how to set my dns server so any advice would be appreciated

Thought I should add that I can access the Internet using Firefox and I have since tried un-installing the updates that updated this morning via add/remove function and still IE will not work unless I type in an IP address. I have switched Kaspersky off and still no joy. I have started IE without add-ons and still nothing.

I have seen this asked for on other threads: notepad %windir%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

So here is mine..

# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.

# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.

# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost
