I have recovery cds that came with my computer. If i format my computer using dos, then put in the cds, will that work rather than use the cds right now while the system is still installed? thanks

Yes, that should work, and it is always better to it with a formatted drive. It makes installation "cleaner". :smile:

recovery will do its own formatting. But those formats are not well enough most of the time. Why dont you do a low level format or use another 3rd party formatting software like dban and then go ahead with the installation with recovery disk if you decided to wipe everything off ? Recovery will do its own formatting regardless what you do. That would be my pick.
