If I format my drive & install windows XP, can I just plug in my cable modem. And will it work? or do I have to connect to the net & let microsoft fine the drivers. And do I have to call the cable company know I formatting my drive. What do I have to do, for I can format my drive, & beabble to set up my cable modem like its set up for the first time..................
what kind cable modem do you have ? do you have drivers CD with it ? I dont think you have to tell your cable company you've formatted your HD...if you dont have drivers for your modem, you can just look it up online and download it yourself
Well, unless your cable modem is a lot different than my Comcast DOCSIS modem, you don't need any of their software to connect, and you don't have to tell them anything. Everything they need is in the modem, since the MAC address your account is tied to is the cable modem's MAC address.
For my service, I take all the XP defaults for networking, and it's connected to the cable system.
