Formatting Network Drive

2526 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Dsherm112
I moved an IDE HD from a W 2000P networked machine to a W 98 non-networked machine. The drive has a C and D partition. I had no trouble formatting the C drive, but the D drive will not format or delete on Fdisk.

How can I format the D section of this drive? The C drive is running W 98 ok, the D doesn't show on Explorer.

Thanks,

Sherm

Are you able to see the D: partition in FDISK?
Yes it shows as an extended dos partition. It will not delete. The drive shows as an extended dos drive in FDisk. It says it contains logical dos drives, but when I try to display the logical dos drives it says "No logical drives defined". When I try to delete it, it says " Cannot delete extended dos partition while logical drives exist". This is a classic Catch 22. It says it cotains logical drives, they are undefined and the partition can't be deleted because logical drives exist. How do I overcome this?

When I try to format the partition it says, "Cannot format a network drive".

The C partition has w 98 installed and running. But I need the D partition for storage.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Sherm

what is the name of the manufacturer? Most manufacturer released programs don't operate under the same UserEnd DOS limitations, so that may be worth a shot.
In fdisk, select option 3 (delete partition), then select option 4 (delete non-dos partition). Are there any non-dos partitions?
It's a Maxtor 8525006. It-'s the only drive and it's jumpered as Master.

I followed Bvalkor's advice, but it didn't work. This partition shows as an Extended Dos Partition. Following the advice gives the following message, "Partition selected is not a non dos partition".

Keep trying guys, I need and appreciate the help.
