I have a gateway md2614u laptop and recently installed windows xp because windows vista sucked. I have got the ethernet driver to work, but that is all! I have no sound and the video picture is very crappy. I tried downloading the drivers on gateways website. (i put the serial number in) but none of the drivers worked :4-dontkno when i try to install the video driver, it says that it failed to initialize and error. Sound drivers wont work either. Right now in device manager I have question marks on 2 pci devices, sm bus controller, video controller (vga compatible) and mass storage controller. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

and welcome to the Forum

Did you install the Chipset driver first? Does Gateway offer XP drivers?

Edit: I see sm bus controller is one missing drivers . . that would indicate the Chipset driver was not installed. You want to install that one first, the order of the others is not significant

Hi. I don't think I installed the chipset. I looked on the site, but didn't find it. I used a vista sound driver and got it to work. They have one driver for windows, but it's for the bios. No luck on the video driver though. Where would I find the chipset?
