FIRST,IE won't display any page; second foxfire doesn't have an address area; next, comodo firewall cut itself off, next Webroots Spyware Sweeper shields went down turned off; next, I can't log into several places I have accounts with and they aren't recognizing my log in information. I'm posting this because after importing favorites to foxfire, if it is in favorites, I can go there since I don't know where the address bar is for foxfire, it surely isn't anywhere I can find. Reid help me at HJT, and claimed I had been doing things, making changes that he didn't know about, but I've continued to scan and yesterday Fix It found
SPYW_FPTLBAR.100. I promptly deleted it from quarantine, and that's the only thing I've done. So with all the security and all the problems, I don't know what is wrong nor what to do!!!

There you go~I still have mega crap on the desktop, for testing this and that, and then although I have XP Home CD now, and uninstalled Office for XP Pro, therefore no word processor, no .doc software to open what is not .rft files, one mess to another. Then Security this and security that, and prompt this and prompt that, I can't see some pages, totally white, then others can't be displayed. help!!!!

**Note** If FixIt finds any more trojans, etc., do not clear them from quarantine--they are safe there and I need to see the filename and path of what it is finding. I can't help you if I don't see the files that are being removed.

Do you have those file names for me? A couple days have passed since I first asked you to begin a new thread here. Has FixIt found anything since?

What program is giving you the Security prompts? If you're having that much difficulty with it, perhaps you should consider another program.

Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan

1. Click on
   located at the bottom of the page.
2. A "pop up" window will appear. * Please ensure that your pop up blocker doesn't block it *
3. Enter your e-mail address, country, and state & click "Free Online Scan" *The download of the 8 MB Panda's ActiveX control will take place*

Begin the scan by selecting

• If it finds any malware, it will offer you a report.
• Please ignore any entry it finds and the offer to buy the program to remove the entry, as we will address this later.
• Click on

* You needn't remain online while it's doing the scan but you have to re-connect after it has finished to see the report.
* Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan

Panda Scan Clean & Fix It Log when infection was found

The file name (fix it gave it) is the date it was found. It took time to find it but I knew it was there somewhere. I believe the path is noted too for your inspection. Panda Active Scan came in clean. And I don't believe you asked me for anything else, but I will check before I sign off. There is so much there I'm not sure I've answered everything. First, in IE7, speigel.com and pitstopforum.com give me white pages instead of the site. Not even "can't display..." And Foxfire, I can't find the address (called location bar by foxfire) bar to possibly type in speigel and pitstopforum, etc. Please let me know what I have not answered. I searched for word processor, Jarte, have now uninstalled, and after reading details of MSWorks 7.0 with Money (like I have any), I decided that it will work, so I've added MSWorks because I have to have something immediately to be able to copy an paste my resume, which turned into rft extention when I uninstalled MSOffice and I've been unable to copy or even attach it anywhere because of the ext. At least with Works, I can copy and paste it anywhere. Thanks for the tip, Scam.com, and the tip on usavoice, I'll never be able to repay you for the insight/information. Now I believe I'm through chg'g things. I have a way to open resume, security seems to be effective, so now I await your instructions.

Panda scan is clean. HJT log is clean. I don't think malware is the cause of those pages coming up blank.

What program is giving you the Security prompts?

Is it a Firewall? Which one?

Why have you added all those sites to your trusted zone--you didn't need to do that before...?

Trusted Zone Sites

I've been adding a few sites at a time, when I had time to add them, they are all in favorites, and I visit regularly. With everything set on "Prompt" or "Ask", I have no time to visit sites, I have to answer all those questions over and over again. I got tired of wasting so much time on ok'ing every little thing. With ever site I've visited regularly over the past 4 yrs, I figured they could go there and reduce some "prompt" Approvals (and it did reduce them, I'm sure you know). I plain couldn't move for 'is this ok, is that ok, what about now is it ok now......."
I'm already nearly mad, I was bananas for a time there over all of this! I didn't know what else to do. The white pages, I think, have something to do with all these Active X, and Scripting settings. Because I am not sure about this Scripting thing, with pc's, I'm not sure how to solve it without chg'ing everything back to "enable", which (it's crazy I know) I've nearly done already! So where do you suggest I go from here, no Infections since fixit found that last week, so far. And I'd like to solve the white page mystery, but I don't know who to ask. Then all these tests and software for the tests are confusing themselves so the sooner I solve these few little problems, the sooner I can get to the bigger problem, My PC. But I have to know my daughter won't end up in a week with no pc because I didn't follow through on cleaning and setting everything up to avoid infections. Thanks Reid

I thought I answered twice!

It's the security settings for IE7. I'm sorry, I thought I had answered before this, the settings ask you to set as one of the following; disable, enable, prompt. And when you don't want to disable them, and you, for security reasons, can't enable them (ActiveX and Scripting) you set to "prompt" which means let me know if this is needed instead of letting these things happen without knowing when it's happening. I apologize if I didn't answer clearly to your question. I am assuming that everything has been set correctly now, since I set all to enable, then a notice kept appearing at top of IE window, and I finally said correct settings for me, and the prompts have stopped for the most part. I'm sure glad! And there hasn't been another infection since Fix It found the one I showed you the log from, and ev'thing seems to be ok now. I hope nothing changes. I've been under the weather, is why I haven't been back til now, sorry for the delay. I reinstalled Spyware Sweeper, and chg'd firewalls and so far every thing seems to be fine. Let me know if you think there is anything else I should cover (short of buying another graphics card for this one, seems Radeon 9200 series is inadequate for this pc) before unhooking her pc, please. One thing more before I go, I've got 25% free space on C drive, and have 20% free on F, and of course D has about 93%. I moved all the "my documents" files from C to D drive, and still haven't got the printer installed which can only go on C, so Lexmark says. I've reinstalled everything I could onto D drive, and it wasn't much. Any suggestions as to how to make that C drive 25% free space larger? And is that adequate free space for things to functions? At least the mouse pointer isn't freezing anymore, while trying to open and close things. Give me your opinion please, is there anything else I can do besides all I've done? I hope you won't mind if I post for your help when I hook my pc up. I thought I would start with that "scannow" application, as I've thought it was XP needing repair, but what do I know. I can't give any details as it's been so long working with correcting problems on this pc. I'll try to be back tomorrow to read your reply. This Really Stinks, as polite as I can be!!!!!!!

I go to MS to get the latest in Direct X and I can't download anything, updates, nothing. So once again I chg the security settings of IE7 to allow scripting and dwnloads, and Active X. It was the only way to download, since I don't know exactly which it is not allowing me to do these things. I'm still sick of these prompts asking me if this is ok? or Do I want to continue that? What the crap is this stuff? & why isn't "prompt" considered a secure setting, although it drives me crazy?

One thing more before I go, I've got 25% free space on C drive, and have 20% free on F, and of course D has about 93%. I moved all the "my documents" files from C to D drive, and still haven't got the printer installed which can only go on C, so Lexmark says. I've reinstalled everything I could onto D drive, and it wasn't much. Any suggestions as to how to make that C drive 25% free space larger? And is that adequate free space for things to functions?

That is a question better asked in the Microsoft Support in the Windows XP Forum.

Regarding your issues with ActiveX prompts, etc., and questions about the settings in IE7, you'd be best served posting in the Internet Explorer section.

Before moving this thread to resolved could you tell me once again that exact "scannow" run application? I can't find where I have it written. I remember there is a space between the first three letters and the /scannow, but was that
"cft /scannow"? I'm not sure and I can't find where I have it noted. I'm about to hook up my pc, and will return to the rest of these problems if I can before my daughter reclaims her pc. Thanks Reid, I know I don't listen well and am head strong and charge forward when I probably shouldn't as with everyone else I come in contact with, so I've been told more than once. I'm not all bad, although some don't believe it. cft?csf? Wish I could find it instead of having to ask you for it again.NEVER MIND POST AND IT SHALL APPEAR. I'VE JUST LOCATED IT AND WILL COPY IT SO IT WON'T GET LOST AGAIN . THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP.

Click Start>Run and type sfc /scannow into the Run box and click Ok.
