hi,

this has hapend to me twice now. The first one was when all of a sudden i realised that my pictures' folder icon had changed and become a normal folder icon. I looked around the internet and found this command 'rundll32 mydocs.dll,PerUserInit' I ran out, but it didnt change the icon, however it did manage to delete my pictures' folder. I wasnt too bothered as it didnt have any pictures of any consequence but it did puzzle me. I tried a couple of the basic recovery softwares, managed to find a few but nothing major.

Now this second event hapnd yesterday. I Store all my photos in my seagate external hard drive. So yesterday i was uploading the latest pictures from last weekend's trip. I uploaded all of them, and then I changed the icon of the folder to the one where it shows its a picture folder. Then I went one level up and corrected the spelling error on that folder's name. there lo and behold the folder next to it just vanished. it was a big big folder had pics and videos from my mates wedding.

I use a sony vaio laptop, with win xp sp2. I have zonealarm firewall, avg antivirus/spyware, spybot. I checked with all of these, no problems here. I once again tried the recovery softwares, but to no avail.

Now heres the thing, if you check the properties of the parent folder for the size and then if you add up the size of the secondary folders, theres a difference of about 300 mb. I think it must be the wedding album. I did the same thing for my old problem. Thereto the parent 'my documents' folders had about 40mb more than the total of all the other folders in it.

So I dont know whats happening here, I once again went googling around and found a few similar problems but nothing really seems to give an answer.

Hopefully you guys could help me with it.

Cheers,

Gerin.

Try this: Open any folder > Tools > Folder Options > View tab > click on "Show hidden files and folders" AND uncheck "Hide unprotected operating system files" (Note: you'll get some warning, just ignore it and click on okay or yes)

I saw this posting somewhere:

"I lost some pics one time. I eventually found them in a backup of a registry cleaner !! However, my pictures folder was still in my documents. I just clicked on my picture folder one day, and it was empty.

I tried everything to locate them, without any luck. Then I got the idea to undo all the backups in the registry cleaner. I started restoring the backups one at a time. The pics reappeared after the second backup was restored. Might not be your problem, but I would give it a try. Good luck."
