My firefox will not play any audio when watching an ad, watching youtube, watching a news outlet, etc. I've checked the volume mixer and it show firefox's volume right in the middle. I've checked Sound Mixer Options and Firefox's Input and Output are both set to default - just like my other browsers (Opera, Edge, Chrome, all of which play sound just fine). I also tried starting Firefox in Safe Mode with no addons enabled but still no audio. what else can I do?

Wow, Mozzilla knows a heck of a lot more about Firefox better than we do.

Something else you could try is performing a Clean Boot. If everything is working fine now you can keep it this way or, you can add one Startup item and/or Service at a time and reboot. Repeat this process until you notice the slowdown once again and you willl have found your culprit.
