Hi there, I have fallen into the roll of network admin at my company and am so under-qualified it isn't funny. I have come to enlist you guys for some help. I need to be able to share files from one of my computers on site to several other peoples computers who are offsite. I need to make it so it is just like they are hooked into the on site network even when they are at the home office. Can anyone tell me what I need to do? From my research, a VPN sounds like it is what I need, but I am so over my head when it comes to this stuff it isn't funny. Please Please Please help me! Thank you everyone in advance for all of your help!

Maybe I should give you guys a little more information.

I work for a car dealership and we use a dealer management software that manages our inventory and keeps all of our sales and finance deals together. The software that we use is hosted off of a "server" here onsite and then the computers on the network connect to the database stored there. I need to make the computers that we have at our home office and another location able to access that just as if they were onsite.

That is why I don't think FTP will work... thanks for the suggestion though... I hope this helps.

You need to consider a VPN, no way you want to try direct file sharing over the Internet.

The easiest way is to install VPN capable routers, which establish the VPN tunnel, then you can network just like you're there.

Okay, do you have any suggestions on inexpensive VPN capable routers? We are using a WTR610N for wireless right now which is connected to a Netgear 16-port switch for wired computing.

Last question.... Will I need one for each location that is connecting to the VPN or one at the Server location and then routers that allow VPN passthrough at each of the other locations?
