I have files with long name. When I look at these files (stored on MAC server) from my G4 they are corrrectly named. When I look at the from my G5 they are not. Example CFOPP~P.AI_H3XOU~P.TIF.

This doesn't happen to all file names. It just happens randomly.

Please help !!

Does it happen in files where you have more then one period in it? Have any of these files been created on either Mac? Have the files be used by Windows PCs?

No windows pc's have accessed these files. They are archived files. The latest problem is a folder 09POSIT14508 when I look at it from G5 it is named properly. When I check this folder from my IMAC the name is 0K1DK8~R

Thanks

I don't know what to tell you, as the names aren't even close, so it's not truncating them. It's looking like there is something wrong with the server file database. Have you looked on Apple's forums to see if anyone else has had the same issue?
