A lot of updates install without problem but not this one.
I am still on Build 1909.
Read somewhere here that someone had great success with Update Assistant , but that
failed too.
Am on a Lenovo Windows 10 Laptop with 1TB, and 8 GB capacity.
Would appreciate any help.

You really need to bring your OS totally up to date. What happens if you just push "Search for Updates?

Download the ISO image of Windows 10 20H2, save the ISO image to your desktop or download location. Right click the Windows 10 ISO image and choose Mount. A virtual DVD drive appears. Double click Setup.exe to start the Upgrade process. Choose to Keep Files.

If that reverts back to 1909, then press the Windows key+X and choose PowerShell (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin) copy and paste or type in this command and press Enter.
DISM /Online /CLEANUP-IMAGE /RestoreHealth after that completes type
SFC /scannow and press Enter. These commands will replace any missing or corrupted System Files. Now try the Upgrade again.

Many thanks for replies.
Taking things in order I tried the suggestion of Checking For Updates.
It seemed to be going well until near the very end of the installation process
when a notice came up saying that Windows could not sign in to my account.
I re entered my password and Pin but still no joy.
Windows keeps insisting that it cannot sign in to my account.

Got in to Safe Mode and everything seems fine there.
There was no box to untick when exiting safe mode.
Still unable to get in to normal mode.
When I enter pin a notice comes up saying Preparing Windows, and
then it's back to the same Can't Sign In To Your Account after a while.
A notice flashed by about a temporary account or profile.

Did you try multiple times to restart as directed? Did you follow all AV/Firewall instructions?

Just thinking........
Following a crash some months ago I found that I only needed to click on the Sign In box
to enter Windows.
There was no need to enter my pin or password following the crash.
Earlier today I reset my old pre crash password and pin when asked for them, and I wonder now if that
is causing a conflict.

Can't Sign In To Your Account after a while. A notice flashed by about a temporary account or profile.
This would indicate your User Profile has become corrupted. Try leaving the password field blank. It should load a Temporary Profile. Then download Account Profile Fixer.

Many thanks.
I did as suggested, left the password field blank, but it just said incorrect password.
It gave a password hint, which is the correct one, so I signed in, this time
with the password but ended up with the same message, We Can't Sign In To Your Account.

Don't fancy a clean install.
Just tried the password reset option on log in screen.
Said that it needs a USB Flash Drive.
Going to try reset in safe mode now.

If you didn't back up your user password to a USB flash drive, then you won't be able to use that.
on another computer or phone you can go to Microsoft account | Sign In or Create Your Account Today – Microsoft and try to login, if that fails, choose Forgot Password, you can reset your Microsoft Account Password by answering the questions, or they will send you a code to your Cell Phone or Email address.

I have checked that out and there seems to be a lot to take in.
It is late now and I will have to come back to it tomorrow.
Somehow I have managed to get stuck in Safe Mode in the troubled
machine.

As a last resort for tonight I changed password but that did not work either.
Hoping for better luck tomorrow.
