FEAR keeps crashing

3404 Views 15 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  gamerman0203
Okay so I have problems with FEAR and FEAR XP. They do one of the following:
Crash
Restart PC
Freeze

My specs:
Nvidia 6800 XT
Msi Neo4 (71-25)
1 gig DDR RAM

Mind you this hasn't done this before.

Please run through each of the steps under "Common Game Issues" in my signature, and post back with results.
Well none of that worked but I am going to call their phone support. I feel like an idiot for not looking earlier. Right on the box.
Let us know how you get on with phone support. If nothing in that thread helped, I'd be thinking it's possibly a heat issue. If their phone support can't help you, we'll take a look into that.
Ok well I called them and the guy told me to keep open the temperature for my GPU and after 15 minutes of game play, check it. I did this and it was fine. It was around 54 degrees. So this narrows my problem down a bit.
Now Counter Strike: Source does it.
Please download SensorsView Pro (link in my sig) and record the temps and voltages, both when the system is idle (at the desktop) and when under load (after 15 minutes or so in a game). Post that info here. SensorsView sometimes gives strange readings, so you might want to double-check it with Everest (also in my sig). In Everest, click Computer -> Sensor to see temps and voltages.
Heres my problem now, at a certain point in FEAR EP where it just freezes. The sound still plays but the game just freezes.
when you play fear are you playing multiplayer cause sometimes on battlefield when your playing multiplayer you can get disconnected but the sound will keep going.
what nvidia drivers are you running.the 84.21 driver is the most stable for now.also what brand of power supply do you have, and what is its power rating
Well no I wasn't playing online and the brand of power supply is I don't know right now. I don't feel like opening my case. I doubt it's my PCU because I just got it and my PC works fine. My Nvidia drivers are 93.71.

well first off try the 84.21 drivers, and just because your pc runs fine during light tasks with that power supply.when that video card really gets going with something as intense as fear.it might not be up to par.keep in mind when playing games your computer uses way more power than it does just net surfing,or checking email.alot of other programs may be really cpu intense, but games are cpu,and video intense.that kind of strain on a cheap,or low watt power supply can cause problems exactly like what you are describing.it may not be the power supply but if we dont know what kind of power supply you have, and its specs we simply wont know.
Ok then lets put it this way, my PSU is 90$ and it's a 500 watt.
Oh and uh I am running the drivers that you suggested and FEAR EP still freezes on me.
have you tried the game with your anti-virus turned off assuming you have one,and try to stop as many programs running in the background as possible.see if that has any affect.
What is your CPU?

at what point in the game is it freezing? There is another thread around here about FEAR crashing at a certain point everytime.
