Try purging firefox and also remove your ~ mozilla folder.
This will wipe out all stored passwords and bookmarks, plugins, extensionsso please
make sure you know your passwords and have backed up bookmarks.

sudo apt-get remove --purge firefox

rm -rf ~/.firefox

WARNING. Take extreme care with last command there is tilde ~
then / then . then firefox. This will remove recursively your firefox
home folder and all settings.

You can use nautilus in Ubuntu as a file manager, make sure it shows
hidden files then delete the hidden .firefox and .chrome folder. A mistake
with the shell command could wipe out your home folder.
Hope that helps
