External HD and MP3 player help!?

1190 Views 3 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  TheMatt
Hi,
I have a Ministry of Sound MP3 player and a Buffalo external 250gb HD.
I'm having problems with the HD.

Basically, the HD will work perfectly, but when i plug in my MP3 player the HD becomes unrecognised and stops working until the MP3 player is removed. This means even when unplugging the HD and plugging it back in again it will not work. Also my computer refuses to start if both MP3 player and External HD are plugged in at the same time. My MP3 player works perfectly though, regardless if the HD is plugged in or not.
Ive tried different USB ports but still have the problem. The HD is a plug and play, so no corrupt drivers can be possible, and my MP3 player has its drivers installed.
Any help on this, i can live with the problem if there is no fix but it is very annoying.

Please reply.

Hi,

Probably there is not enough power getting to both. If you unplug a third device, both might work.

The hard disk should have an AC Adapter that plugs into the wall, you will need to use that, as the USB interface does not provide enough power for disk drives.
Actually i just uninstalled the MP3 driver and reinstalled it while the HD was on and it all works perfectly again.
Thanks for posting the solution, glad you got it working.
