Greetings, All

I have a WD external USB drive that is not functioning. When I plug it in to my laptop, I get a message similar to:

"one of the usb devices attached has malfunctioned and windows does not recognise this device"

The drive doesn't show up in My Computer (of course), and only as Unknown Device in Device Manager.

I tried the WD diagnostics, but they don't see the drive. Any ideas would be great, thank you!

If WD diags don't see the disk, then either the nclosure or the drive itself has probably failed. Do you have access to a desktop to remove the HD from teh enclosure and connect it as an internal drive?
