Explorer no longer supports ticked 'Remember each folder's view setting' in XP Home SP-3.

If this can't be fixed can I set the same view (details) for all folders?

I know how it's supposed to be done, but the settings do not stick. It's a fairly common XP problem, but I can't find a definitive answer to it.

If I set a folder to 'details', that's OK for that session, but it's gone back to icons next time I access it.

I seem to have fixed it (for the moment). I prefer 'details' view in everything but Control Panel where I want 'icons'.

I set it globally to 'details' then changed Control Panel to 'icons' which seems to have worked, but I'm not entirely confident that will survive a restart.
