I am wondering if someone out there can help me. Whenever I am using Internet Explorer I am getting this error:

EXPLORER caused a general protection fault
in module USER.EXE at 0003:00001022.

I have tried running the Internet Explorer repair tool but it didn't help. I keep getting booted because of the error and it wipes out whatever I have on my desktop.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Windows 98 only:
Try booting into command prompt and type scanreg.
In Windows you can type scanregw from the run box.

If you have windows 95 you can get these files from a 98 machine and run them on the 95 box.

Hopefully you can repair your registry and get back to going.

Also if you don't have a virus scanner installed and up to date, you may want to purchase one a do a full system scan.

Maybe it is time for a new computer....

Boot into safe mode. Turn off your screensave if active.

Run scandisk, thourough and fix all errors. Let it run till it is finished, then run defrag. Reboot.

Do you have a virus scanner installed? Make sure if you do that it is updated, and if not download a trial version.

I use f-secure. you can go to http://www.f-secure.com and download a 30 day evaluation copy.

Good luck
