Hey,

Sorry this is a little long...

I was wondering if anyone had any info that could help with something, it doesn't seem to be a problem, but keeps resurfacing daily and it interests me cause i've never run into it before. I had to fix a computer the other day, and its fixed, but something i noticed keeps popping up and i was wondering if it can be removed? If its some form of spyware or part of some software?

The issue is this.... Everyday so far Zonealarm pops up saying explorer.exe wants to access the internet and gives the IP address its trying to contact. This happens randomly, doesn't happen just upon internet access or network access. It happens even if you open any other application too. Only 3 addresses keep surfacing so far, and they all point to something called 'Echotopic' which according to them scans a site a 'customer' is visiting, highlights specific words on that site for example "memory cards" and turns this into a link to another website, sort of like advertising.

Now i've tried to remove this. There is nothing in the programs list that seems remotely relevant to echotopic or what it does, there is no toolbars installed other than yahoo toolbar which i haven't know to do or contain this sort of thing. Now while fixing this computer i done every type of scan i could think of, scanning processes and hidden processes, anti spyware/malware, antivirus, anti-rootkit you name it since i had to clean this computer out. And only the anti-spyware reported anything, all of which was low threat and removed anyway.

Zonealarm has blocked this permenantly from happening on these 3 addresses, and online it never does the kinds of things this echotopic is suppose to do, so its not really a problem. But i was wondering if anyone knew of software that contains this kind of thing or if this is something that can be removed or what? There is no processes or software running that could be causing this. So its kind of beyond me as what is causing explorer.exe to do this. Unless explorer.exe was possibly modified itself in some form before i received the computer here to fix?

Thanks in advance for any help or info relating to this.

Just realised infact that i haven't scanned the registry, and i kept using firefox. Just tried using IE and first IP it tries to access is those 3 before trying to access google.

Anyone any ideas if cleaning up the registry doesn't work?
