This problem just began happening a few weeks ago with Explorer 8. I try to go to the Netflix sign on screen and a window pops up that says Explorer has stopped working. I downloaded Explorer 9 but the same thing happens. Netflix works fine with Firefox or Safari from my PC. I am using Vista 64 bit.

Go into the Advanced section of your Internet Options and make sure the proper allowances are checked in the Multimedia Section. If they are, then use the defaults under Security.

I went to Internet options as you suggested, then to the advanced tab where I looked at the multimedia options. All boxes were checked except "show image download placeholders". I didn't know if that was right or not, and I didn't know what the security defaults should be, so I clicked on the "reset" button to restore Explorer to default. That didn't help the problem, but it did change the checkmarks im the multimedia section. Then I clicked on "restore advanced settings" which didn't help, but then I clicked on "reset" again, and the problem is solved!!

Thank you.

Re: [SOLVED] Explorer 8 or 9 interaction with Netflix

WHOAA!!! I spoke too soon! I was able to get to the Netflix sign on screen, which I wasn't able to before, but when I tried to login, I got the same pop up window that Explorer stopped working. I guess I'll just have to stick with Firefox for viewing streaming media.

Put Netflix in your Trusted sites in IE options-Security. Make sure your Security slider is low on Trusted Sites and Medium on both Security-Internet and Privacy.

I did as you suggested. I added netflix.com to my trusted sites and lowered the slider bar on trusted sites to low as well as medium on both security internet and privacy. No help, still stops working as the pop up says. Thanks for trying, I'll just stick with Firefox.

Sorry, but the good news is FF gets the job done. If you want to make one more try at a fix, download the 32 bit version of IE9 even though you have a 64 bit OS. They can both be on your 'puter.
