Heya

Well i'm not entirely sure it's a hard drive problem, infact it may not be. But to be honest I'm really not sure what the cause is. See, what happens is, I'll just be doing normal stuff (browsing the web, playing, chatting, the usual) and suddenly everything will freeze but the mouse. The hard drive light comes on and doesn't go off, then the mouse freezes up. Nothing responds and I have to reset.

What might cause this sort of issue? I have 2 hard drives. My master is a 40gb maxtor with windows and a lot of other stuff on it, about 2 years old I guess. I've never had any issues with it. The other drive is a 160gig Seagate, which I got about 2 weeks ago. I use both drives quite frequently.

Has anyone experianced these symptoms? Is it likely it has anything to do with the hard drives at all? I was thinking a heating problem, but the side of my case is always off, and it isn't exactly hot here, plus the fan seems fine.

Any help much appreciated.

Cheers,
spotila

Hi,

We need a few things, like tell us about your cpu, motherboard, video card, power supply (watts and brand name).

Then, run a temperature check for both at-rest and under-stress and also post what voltages you see when your computer is operating. If you don't have an onboard program for the temps and voltages, here are a couple of free ones you can try:

Sandra Lite Utility

or

Speedfan will tell you the temperatures and a whole lot more. It's free

or

http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php

Report back and we might be able to know what is going on.
