ethernet port?

I have another computer it's an Emachine T1090 and I wanted to hook up my cable internet to it through the router. The only thing is that the router uses ethernet cords and there is not a place for an ethernet cord on the emachine. I really don't know much about computer but does anyone know if there is any way I can somehow get it to work??

As long as this computer has a PCI slot available, you can buy an ethernet card for next to nothing. Check out Newegg.com if you're okay with buying online. I highly recommend them.

What is a PCI slot and how do I know if my computer has one?

according to your computer's manufacturer, your machine has a pci slot. at least one.

the easiest way to know if you have one available, is to open the machine, and look inside.

look for a white slot. you should have 2 or more on that board.

for what it's worth, they are asking a rediculous price for a network card.

i wouldn't pay more than 15$ for one.

Yeah, that is an outrageous price for something as simple as an ethernet card.

You will have to open your case to install this. If you absolutely don't want to do this, you can buy USB ethernet adapters (which I do not recommend) which just plug into the usb port and you plug the ethernet cable into the little jack at the end of the cable.

A good NIC can be had for less than $20 almost anywhere.

for what it's worth, if you aren't upset about your speed being limited, the usb network adapters usually work just fine.

i have one that someone gave me, i wouldn't have bought it, but i do have one, and i do manage to find lots of uses for it.

(like if i work on someone's machine, and i need to transfer something to it, and all they have is a modem, but i don't feel that installing a network card is within the boundaries of what they pay me for.)

i wouldn't recommend one unless you absolutely don't want to open the machine.
