My gateway laptop running vista is not recognizing an when an ethernet port is plugged in. If anybody had any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you

Look in Device Manager for any thing in the Network Adaptors marked with an error

The ethernet controller itself says it is working properly but there are flags on windows 6to4 adaptor #4, #6, #7, and #8, i tried updating the driver and it says device is working properly as well.

What is the ethernet cable attached to at the other end?

It connected to my xbox 360, I checked on the link you provided but it says it is only for Windows 7, I am running Vista. I appreciate the effot though

If connecting from your pc to xbox you need a crossover cable not a patch [straight thru] cable.
