Hardware does not recognize ethernet jack on my Gateway 310 desktop Intel Celeron Essex2 2.2GHZ series...with an internet jack , it reads inNetStewart s1-70027 10/100 BT. Can't get online or see any network connection options. In the Device Manager under network adapters it only reads direct parallel and about seven different WLAN options. Hardware wizard points out hardware for ethernet network is not recognized. I cant see the ethernet network controller or LAN settings in the network tasks area. I have a partitioned harddrive: C: drive with Windows xp home edition about 30gigs, and recently installed a Dell reinstallation windows xp professional, and am having a problem with loading the drivers on the Gateway support download site because, in the Device Manager, because there is not question mark next to the device issue with a option to upgrade driver.

Any suggestions?

Download the proper driver from Gateway's site for your model computer. On a net capable computer and save it to a Flash Drive. Right click the adapter under Network Adapters in Device Manager and choose Update Driver, browse it to the driver you downloaded. Or run the installer if it has one. http://support.gateway.com/support/... - 7.0.36.0; PRO/100 - 7.0.26.0&uid=233261220

Re: Ethernet jack is not recognized

Thank you for the response. I had my harddrive partitioned into two drives: drive C & drive D. I copied the drivers from drive C to drive D, and then the drivers downloaded from Gateway's site were recognized. I can get online, and the sound works. The monitor looks clearer. However, I still am trying to update the chip drivers. I have the file of updated chip driver from Gateway's site, however once in the Device Manager, I'm not seeing where the chip drivers are? Does anyone know where the chip drivers are for a Gateway 310 seriers desktop? The Windows xp professional reinstallation CD for Dell, is what I used? Thanks......

I've not dealt with Gateway before, but chipset drivers are typically self installing exe files. Simpy run the exe file and it should install all of the drivers.

Thanks for the advice... much apppreciative. In running the chipset driver, which I have the file, how do I run it. When I get into Device Manager, I'm not sure which catagory to update?
