I've been trying to resolve this issue for a very long time and eventually gave up a couple months ago but I decided I'd try to look for more help. I have a 80ft cat5 ethernet cable I got cut at compusa about 3years ago to go across the house to my room. I used to have an a really old computer but about 6months ago I bought a brand new top of the line computer and got really excited and set it up on my desk in my room to discover my ethernet cable wasnt being detected on my computer. The weird part is that it works with other computers.. I had my gf's laptop(3yo) using it, my dads(3yo), my older computer that I dont use anymore but whenever I connect mines it doesnt work. Can anyone please explain to me why ? or help me find a solution? I test hooking up a few different cables to my computer and they work but that one specificly wont.

You are saying, "Not detected"

So, when you plug this cable in, the icon in the bottom right has a Red X?

but when you plug other cables in it works fine
and this cable works on other computers.
would that summarize the situation?

What happens if you wiggle the cable while it is plugged in, or push it and hold it in while you test it. The connector on the computer may be damaged, just throwing out ideas

I'm sorry If I didnt make it clear enough but yes thats exactly what happens. I have been able to connect two laptops and 1 desktop to this wire but when I connect my new computer to it wont detect the wire at all.

I don't think it's the connector on the computer because I have it connected now to a cable but its located in the room of the modem, I have it connected to a new wire but i've tested it with a like 6-8year old wire I have as well and it works just fine with that one too.. its just when I connect it to the one thats across the house that it doesnt work which is really weird because it works with other computers

Try downloading the latest drivers from the computer manufacturer's website and uninstall the current drivers using program and features and install the latest ones.

Have seen this before and sometimes an updated driver cures the problem.

If unable to download on the laptop then use another computer and transfer to a USB stick and then install from the USB stick on probmatic Laptop.
