Hi I'm hoping somebody can help me. I have a desktop pc running XP (SP2 i think) which has a Blue Screen fault:
Stop: c0000218 {Registry File Failure}
and referring specifically to the Software file in thw system 32 config folder. I see this all over the internet but the common repairs don't seem to be working.
I have tried the Microsoft Support approach by replacing the files with new copies from my 'repair' folder however my repair folder is empty and therefore I can't replace this way.
I have inserted a XP cd (upgrade version) to enter recovery and run chkdsk/r and fixboot but no joy.
I have also tried repairing XP but as the cd is not the original and only an 'upgrade' cd it will not let me progress as it can't detect an existing version of windows.
Can anybody help me?
Thanks
Martin
