I've got a Epson Stylus C82 running on XP. And it just won't print anything. I plug it into my laptop, turn it on, get the "you have just connected hardware, well done for you" noise and everything seems fine. So I send something to print, and nothing at all happens. It goes to spooling and nothing happens. So I tried it on my old desktop (also running XP) and I have the same problem, it was running fine before. The only things I've noticed is that, before it died, I'd send something to print and nothing would happen, then I'd turn everything on the next day and what I sent the day (or days) before would print. Also, the ink light is on, but I don't think it is that, because that only came on just before it died completely and I don't get any software message saying it's completely out of ink, just the low ink light on the printer itself.

Hope that makes some sense.
Any ideas? Am I being dumb? Should I try a new ink cart'? Or should I buy a new printer?

Thanks in advance,
Wisey!

Your printer is out of ink. Unfortunatley you have a crappy Epson, why crappy, because the print head is in the carrier, as opposed to being in the ink cartridge. I would suggest you go to Ssc services and d/l their software. This is a piece of software that lets you fool the Epson ink counter. Your cartridges at the moment have at least 15% ink in them however Epson in their wisdom and need for money build into their printers a device to make customers go out an buy more of their ink. I ditched my Epson purely for this reason, I bought an Hp which has the printhead in the cartridge.
Oh! another way around it is to purchase a chip resetter, on Ebay for about £4.00 or $8.00.

Thanks man. Erm, I'll try doing that, but normal it comes up with a "printer is out of ink" message on screen.

One question, whats Ssc? And if you could give me a link that would be very hepful. I've tried Googleing it, but I can't find it.

Thanks agian,

Wisey!, There is nothing crappy about Epson printers. You can check the printer properties (Start>>printers and fax>>right click on your printer and select properties>>click advanced) see that the spooler settings are correctly. The Epson status monitor and red light (blinking) do indicate that at least one of your ink cart. is either 85%-90% empty or completely empty, you are correct that normally you should have gotten that warning around 85%, though if you had not used the printer in some time its possible you did not. What does the status monitor currently say about your ink levels, any cart showing up as completely empty will cause the printer not to print, so even if you want to print in black ink only if a color cart. is empty you can not print. USe the SSC utility with caution, some of the tests can use a lot of ink and if you saturate the overflow pad you'll get another warning and have to replace it (its a pain and pricey)

I used the word crappy because thats my opinion of Epson printers . based on my experience . If you scroll down to page four you will see ,"I buried my Epson printer today". it has photos of what is inside and you will see all the sponges used.
To explain the crappy statement. I print Black only never use colour. The Epson required a Black cartridge change every 2 weeks and every 2nd or 3rd change I had to throw out 3 perfectly good colour cartridges. (all full).
Now with the non crappy HP I get six weeks before a Black cartridge change and NEVER have to change the colour. Enough said?
