Hi All,

Got an Epson ET-2850. The printers ink pad was replaced with a brand new one. When I go to try to print, I get the error:

E-11, The ink pad needs service. Contact Epson. I was able to access the printers admin page and I don't see anything in settings to resolve. I also don't see anything in the maintenance page on fixing this error.

I also looked for some kind of reset button, however didn't find one.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Thanks all.

I'm going to watch the video again about the correct software and look for the counter. In the video it looked like it wanted you to provide a code which appeared to have to be purchased for the counter to work.

From Epson:

"To reset the counter on an Epson printer, follow these steps:
  1. Extract the archived files using WinRar.
  2. Open the .exe file and select the Epson printer type.
  3. In the Maintenance section, choose Waste ink pad counter and check the box next to Main pad counter.
  4. Click the Check button, then select the Initialization button to reset the waste ink pad counter1.Alternatively, you can press the ink cartridge reset button on the printer, or use the Epson Scan 2 Utility on your computer23."

Appreciate all the info all. I'm going to start with the drivers etc and see if that has it. If not I'll try the winrar method. All else fails the client is going to buy a new printer from Costco. What is weird is that they have had this printer for a while and I'm surprised this is even a thing. If so, poor customer experience for sure.

To reset the ink waste counter on your Epson ET-2850, follow these steps:

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.Press and hold the "Stop" button (red circle with an "X") and the "Power" button simultaneously. While holding both buttons, plug the printer back into the power source.Continue holding the buttons for about 5 seconds until the power light starts flashing, then release them. The printer will reset.
It's worth a try to see if this will work. The "Stop" button is now an uncolored circle with a triangle in it, located at the upper-right of the front-panel buttons.

Did you try the third-party firmware "hack." It seems that it is either this or send the printer back to Epson for servicing at a greater cost. I'd definitely set up a PayPal account as I wouldn't want to give this outfit my credit card information directly. From the video it seems to be a counter that throws up the message after a certain number of pages printed.

i read a lot about this issue. people are saying do not use print head cleaning as the ink will fill up the waste tank. better to just set a page on word and print whole page with same color a few times till get no lines in it do it for each color.also make sure your printing stuff every two to three weeks that uses all colors
