Hiyas. Well I have had this pc for about 3 years now. It has never been great especially seeing as I was completely mis-sold it by dun dun PC WORLD!
But anyway, it worked to a degree. Programmes would run, albeit slowly cos of the low system specs (gcard and mboard).
I recently had a problem where I tried to restore my pc after a critical error, using backup discs I made because none were supplied with the pc. These backups were made by a burnijng programme that came WITH the pc.
Anyway, this failed and a full pc repair later, including a new gfx card and a motherboard, my pc worked faster than ever.
Two weeks later and I am getting nothing but errors.
This programme has crashed that programme has crashed. My games crash firefox crashes ie crashes, every programme I have has crashed in the past week. I re-installed and reinstalled and reinstalled. I did virus scan after scan after scan, used spybot SD and after fixing every virus and every error i still get THE PROGRAMME HAS ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO CLOSE.

I am on the verge of teaching my comp how to fly without wings. I don't want to spend loiads of money getting it repaired AGAIN or downloading some auto fixer because I don't have lots of money atm, and I don't intend to waste too much on this heap of crap I call a pc.

The error usually refers to a file called 56_appcompat.txt or something like that in C:mydocs:local settings: temp folder. Thjis file doesn't exist until I launch a prog. For example, I goto the location after a crash, and the file isn't there. However, just before I confirm the crash I can goto the file location and view the file sometimes.

This is driving me to insantiy as you may have gathered. PLEAAAAAAAASE help me someone, I have almost gone bald with all the hair I am tearing out here

Thanks

PS. I have deleted my temp folder (copied it first as a backup)
this didn't work. Pasted the backup and half the files were missing, but anyway, I am getting the same errors and the same amount of them.

I know how to get over it btu what is my pc doing?! WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY is it trying to annoy me so much? Sometimes, I hate PC's.

Hi Ferinos and welcome to TSF

Please answer the following question(s):

1. What parts did you replace on your system?
2. Can you please tell me the exact system specs of your PC?

*-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------*

Next I would like you to download and install Speedfan. In the Speedfan program I would like you to tell me the voltages, fan speeds, and temperatures of your computer.

The issue from first sight points towards RAM but we can not assume this so lets test it. Download and burn to a disk Memtest 86+. Choose the pre-built .zip and burn the .ISO file in the zip folder to a disk.Boot up from the disk and check each stick of RAM in your system. To do this (ONLY for multiple RAM sticks) take all of the sticks of RAM out and just run with one when you test your RAM. Do this one by one on every stick in the system and if you find one with errors, set it aside as you will need to replace this one as it is faulty.

(This is commonly what your RAM stick should look like)

Please reply back with any questions about these steps if necessary. If there are no questions do each task one by one and post back your results back in your next post.

VRam 3.30V VSB3V 3.33V
Chipset 1.41 V Vbat 3.32 V
+5V 4.96 V

I'll burn that thing to a disc now

You can run TestMyHardware and tell me the information in those fields or you can try telling me the information from System Information in all programs. Try sticking to these main topics:

Motherboard Manufacturer and model
How many sticks of RAM and how much
Graphics card manufacturer and model
Hard drive manufacturer
Power Supply Unit (PSU) Wattage and manufacturer

How do I boot up from a disc? And one more thing, I don't want to sound pompous or anything, but the last time I booted from a disc, I ended up paying for my PC to be repaired, is my pc liable to blow something on me again, which this time will mean it's beyond repair? How safe is this

(invisions PC catching fire)

PS when I say I booted, I think I did it right, that's why I also asked how SHOULD I do it

Mainboard (Motherboard?) AGP PCI IMB USB i2c/SMBus
1 CPU
Model MS-7267
One stick of ram 1024 MB
GFX CARD Nvidia 8600 GT
It doesn't say anything about my hard drive but I have two, a C and a slave F. I have had both for ages and never had a single prob with them before though
Same for my power supply (what exactly do you mean by that, the voltage/plug socket type? if so a normal UK plug socket and standard voltage whatever that is) :)

No I am well assured that your PC will not blow up from the Memtest disk . Also burn the ISO NOT with the Windows burning software; ONLY use Nero or some other burning software. You could also use the free Active ISO Burner from http://www.download.com.

Now for booting up from the disk you will have to insert the disk into your drive and restart the computer. Then when the first loading screen comes up keep tapping the Del, F1, F2, F3, F4, F6, F8, or F12 key. Look back to system documentation for the BIOS access key. In the BIOS try to find a boot order section and change the CD Drive to boot up FIRST.

Also for those Speedfan temperatures they are very hot. Actually to hot for any computer to run under. When you are done working on the tests use a compressed air can to blow all dust from the pc. Then remove the heatsink and fan and scrape off the thermal paste from the CPU. After scraping it away buy some Arctic Silver and reapply and small pea drop on the CPU again. Place the Heatsink over it and put the fan back on it. Then send back results about how the computer is doing.

For the Power Supply stats just figure how much Wattage the PSU has and the manufacturer of the thing in the back of your pc you put the power cord into :).

These are the steps you must take:

  1. Run Memtest 86+ on the one 1024 Mb stick of RAM on the computer (Since you only have one stick you do not need to open the PC.. yet)
  2. Use a non painted metal object and rub your hands over it to ground yourself. Do NOT work on a rug as you could static shock a component in the PC. Afterwards clean your PC of all dust and remove the heatsink and fan. Use a non-alcoholic substance with a non-static rag to clear off the old thermal paste. Clean the heatsink of dust and reapply a pea-drop of thermal paste back on the CPU (For extra information on applying thermal paste please check here: (Arctic Silver 5 Applying Instructions) . Put the heatsink on top of it, and screw it back in. Then screw the fan back over it and connect the fan back into its socket. Make sure to put the fan cord in correctly or you could fry your Mainboard (Motherboard).

Here is a picture of a Heatsink and fan together:

Hopefully this answers everything as this was one of the longest posts I ever made

Erm okay I'll try and follow that rofl. As for my heat, when IU got my pc repaired, the guys said they cleaned every inch of my pc and were amzed how dirty it was. It hadn't been cleaned once in three years. However surely it can't be dust causing the heat? I've only had this comp (cleaned) for about 3 weeks

Well if you really want to you can not clean your computer but I do recommend doing so, just in case. Also pay special attention to the thermal paste reapplying as you really must do that after you run Memtest. Please read again the article I put up as I have made EDIT's to it.
