Did you look in the preferences to see if there was an option for it? Every email client I've used has an option to set how often it checks for mail.

in entourage, how can i get emails to automatically download with out having to click send/receive every time?

Which version of Entourage do you have?
I believe you have to setup a schedule for the email to download automatically. Normally Entourage will set this up automatically when you setup an email account.
