Hope this is in the right forum:

When I am on a website which has an embedded WMP video clip, I don't get any sound. Video plays fine, but no audio.

This is in Firefox 2.0 browser as well as IE6 browser.

All other types embedded video clips work fine.

I am on Windows XP Pro.

download KLite codecs pack and see if it works!
karanislove,

Thanks for response.

It worked. Problem solved.

I downloaded the K-Lite Codec Basic.
During the install, K-Lite showed that a number of DirectShow filter registry entries were 'broken' and prompted to remove or leave. I removed them.

What could have caused the registry entries to 'break'?
I have no idea about it but if somethings goes wrong then u can always do System Restore.... hehe!
Glad to know that ur problem is solved btw.

Some registry cleaners can damage cocec filter entries....also many programs will unregister codecs as they install their own versions onto your system.
AHA! That makes sense.

So, possibly TuneUp Utilities 2007's Registry cleaner, which I ran over the weekend could have broken the filter entries?

Could this happen again? Any way to avoid this happening?

Thank you for your help.

Yes...don't use a registry cleaner. They can do far more harm than good if not used correctly :)

Thank you for your help.
You're welcome...come back anytime you need a hand :)
