electricians tape on video card...

734 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Volt-Schwibe
call me crasy, but i like to salvage computer parts, old heatsinks... whatever is around, and im curious if putting black electicians tape on my video card would hurt anything, the tape can take high voltage so ide assume it can take what my video card uses, see i got this extra heasink laying around and i want it on my video card, but i have to tape off the pins and whatever is metal on the card so it doesnt conduct, would it hurt anything?

As long as you don't go nuts or try using it as a termal compound then you should be safe. Just keep in mind that if you use it to hold on a heatsink that it won't work well at all.
nah im using a strip of copper to clamp it, thanks
the tape covers the pins on the board below
It's a good way to safeguard against shorts, that's what I've used it for in many applications.
2 layers....

that's my advice.

one thin layer of E-tape will sometimes allow metal parts to carve through.

so i'd go with two.
