Hello,

i just replaced my old E 2140 cpu ( 1.6 Ghz) with an E 6300 ( 2.8 Ghz, Wolfdale). The 6300 is running at half speed only , ~ 1.6 Ghz. On the BIOS message when boots up, says:
Cpu - Intel Pentium 2.8 Ghz.
Cpu speed - 12694 Mhz
On my mobo spec ( Asrock ConRoe 1333-D667 ) appears that all Dual Core procs are supported. But i have some doubts regarding the chipset, i945G.
Does anybody knows if i can make it working the E 6300 on this mobo?Or i have to buy a new one.If i get a new one with G41 chipset it will work?
thnx
regards,

yeah , i checked twice that number, it is 12624 Mhz. That would be some record i guess, if it were true :)). And at first i was thinking the same, that is some power saving thingy, (the old E 2140 was running somewhere @ 1100 Mhz when that feature kicked in). But this new proc is not going over 1600 even when i'm stressing it.

That speed is dead on with my E6300 with Speed Step running.

I have an Asus P5QL Pro with the E6300.
It won't move unless you put a demanding load on the CPU. Go into the Bios and Disable Speed Step and the CPU will run at full speed. Some Mobo's require disabling other things also. I have to disable "C1E Support" on my Asus Mobo.
After you see the actual speed, go back into the Bios and enable whatever you disabled.

..erm, just checked , i have Speedstep disabled.Turned off some "thermal throtling", the only difference is that at boot up, it shows "Cpu speed - 12.69 Ghz" instead of 12694 Mhz.Do you guys have any link whitch mobo supports officialy this processor? My motherboard is + 2 years old, maybe there is the catch

Could be an incompatibility, yeah. You could try updating the BIOS. That motherboard isn't the best, so it might be worth replacing it anyway. The Asus P5QL is a good budget board that supports the E6300.

Your Mobo supports * - LGA 775 for Intel® Dual Core Core™ 2 Extreme / Core 2 Duo / Pentium Dual Core / Celeron, supporting Dual Core Wolfdale processors*
*Compatible with all FSB1333*/1066/800/533MHz CPUs except Quad Core* so that CPU should be compatible.
Latest Bios update was Version 1.80 12-12-07 to address 4GB RAM compatibility.

well, i'v got a response from Asrock. It seems that is a problem with the BIOS.Even if they said 2 years ago that this mobo is supporting Wolfdale, it looks like this E 6300 its a little bit different Wolfdale, ( lol). They sent me a BIOS update ( 1.82 ) for testing , but it did'nt worked.Replyed, now i'm waiting , maybe i will get a good one.If not, i will get a G41 chipset mobo.Checked on Intel, it looks that even on some of the G31 chipset can cause problems.

soooo...problem solved. The guys from Asrock proved to be very helpful, the next day i was complaining for the not working BIOS file, they sent me the file again , this time unzipped. After flashing the BIOS, the E 6300 was recognized corectly. If anybody wants to get this proc, it is strongly recomended to check the compatibility with the mobo on the Intel website.

regards,
