so i decided to put my dx4200 into an X-dreamer case...

upon connecting the power sw. to do a self test boot. i heard a lil sound...i dont know if this has fried my mobo or not.

what i do know is.
there was no static elec shock.
it was working before the switch.
when i put the LED -/+ on the light works...but when i hit the power button...nothing...

could i have possibly put the power sw in the wrong pins? and fried something?

its a straight out of the box DX 4200-09 from gateway.

if you need to know anything else just post and i will tell you as soon as i can so you can help me :D

Take the front panel headers off and redo them. Sounds like you may have gotten the Pwr Sw and the Pwr Led mixed up. If you take a magnifying glass and a light, you will see the markings on the side of the front panel header that will tell you what goes where. At least, on my boards.

when you don't receive a reply pm a mod with the link to the thread

check the manual for a diagram

check you have a standoff for each hole in he m/b
no more no less
and they line up with the holes in the m/b

Sorry for letting this one pass me by and not getting back to you. My internet provider won't accept TSF email, so I don't get notifications that someone has answered. Therefore, some threads I have subscribed to get lost in the shuffle of the many posts I answer. My bad, and I apologize for that.

For the life of me, I can't find what board is in that computer or who makes it, so almost impossible to tell how the front panel header should be hooked up.

Can you tell me what wires are coming out of the case (like Pwr Sw, etc) and maybe we can do a little guessing game with the pic you sent of the front panel header.

Another real issue we might have here is that some Gateway computers do not have standard setups for things like the front panel header. We can try, but can't promise anything.

I will keep trying to find which motherboard this one is, but some of those are hard to identify who made the motherboard.

well ...the tech support they offered me was ...well crap...i looked all over and could not find it myself...i have one main one that was connected....just the power sw. the rest have labeled inputs on the board. (ie. usb, 1943, audio, and something else)it has a media reader, which i am not all t hat enthused of keeping as i don't need it. i think i burnt the board because. I plugged a new PSU into the board just to check for anything...and still nothing.

Also I was not unpleased with the service, it was an attempt to try to keep it a current issue as I know most of anything after a front page does not get read. Sorry.
