DVR-RW drive nto seen in boot options

Hi,

I am using is a SATA DVD-RW drive for a project I am doing for a friend and it does not show in the boot options of the motherboard. The mobo is Asus K8V SE Deluxe. Now there are 2 sata slots with the VIA Chipset and it's placed there at the 2nd slot. The first slot houses the SATA hdd system disk. Problem is I'd have to install an IDE DVD drive to have boot-to-cd options because as stated earlier the SATA DVD-RW doesn't show.

There is a Promise RAID slot(Fastrack) in the board but CD/DVD atapi drives are not accomodated there(I read it in the manual) so there...that's my problem. :4-dontkno:4-dontkno

Any ideas....?:sigh:

Hi;

The modo is with AMI BIOS. Please see below:

BIOS Properties:
Vendor American Megatrends Inc.
Version 1001.005
Release Date 02/09/2004
Size 512 KB
Boot Devices Floppy Disk, Hard Disk, CD-ROM, ATAPI ZIP, LS-120
Capabilities Flash BIOS, Shadow BIOS, Selectable Boot, EDD, BBS
Supported Standards DMI, APM, ACPI, ESCD, PnP
Expansion Capabilities ISA, PCI, AGP, USB

VIA VT8237 chipset with 2 sata slots. Plus a Promise RAID sata slots.

How can I change it in the BIOS? Where will I go and check there..?

Thanks for the assistance. :)

What's it for..?

I seem to also see that when I stick a USB stick and I restart the BIOS settings does not read the SATA-Hdd and the DVD-RW SATA drive and it tells me to press <g> to continue boot. To remedy it I would have to load defaults. Then boot and reload the VIA raid driver to make it read the two SATA devices. That happened two times already.

Can I use the Promise Raid controller SATA slots to house a SATA-hdd(logical) for backup purposes only. My arrangement is 1 IDE hdd system disc, 1 SATA hdd for image backup purposes(logical drive only) and not as a RAID array...?

I'm not really a techy so please bear with my questions...really do not know and trying to learn from you guys here. So far I've learned a lot here thanks!

I'll check again for the settings on the DVD-RW.

Thanks. :)
Hi;

The SATA options in the OnBoard Devices Configuration>OnChip SATA Boot ROM>Enabled. The other option is Disabled.

OnBoard Promise Controller>Disabled
---Operating Mode(RAID)

OnBoardLAN>Disabled
---OnBoard LAN Boot ROM>Disabled

OnBoard 1394>Disabled

The Promise Controller specifically states that they do not carry ATAPI CD/DVD drives. The VIA VT8237 recognizes it during booting but it does not list the DVD-RW drive in the 1st / 2nd / 3rd Boot Devices.

If you plug a USB it is recognized and is listed. Only the DVD-RW drive is not listed. I d not understand that phnomenon. In another board. I did not have to do anything as this particular drive was auto-detected and listed in the boot options outrightly.
