I have a laptop coming to me that has a DVD playing error! Aparantely the DVD is recognised but doesn't play, does anybody know how to fix this! I'm hoping it's just a codec that's needed? Thanks in advance.

It's a DVD movie! And he is trying to play it through media player (windows) cheers.

try to change the region code..

the region code can be changed only 5 times..so be carefull..on how to change the region code..here's the link : Windows XP Common Issues > DVD Region Codes

DVD movie playback isn't supported by all versions of Windows. There isn't a mpeg2 codec installed.

In any case, until you have the laptop and can answer specific questions and/or provide any errors, there is no reason for everyone to simply guess what the problem could be.

Download VLC (Video LAN crew)

I use it and love it. It plays nearly any video type on the planet. WMP is great and all but is only good for music. Nothing else.

download it from here VideoLAN - Official page for VLC media player, the Open Source video framework!

Once you've installed it. Run it and go to
Media
-Open Disc
-select the drive in which you have your DVD and click Play.
