dvd will not burn

I have just formatted my hardrive
I have a nec 3540 burner.
I have tried nero and dvd fab
nothing works.

When I look at my computer you see the dvd-r drive
Once you try to burn it changes to a cd-rom.

You can uninstall and reinstall it comes back as dvd-r drive

I have loaded all mb drivers I am running xp
