DVD RW Wont work in XP SP2

Hi Guys, I wonder if anyone can help.

I had Windows 2000 Professional on my machine and my DVD RW worked fine. I bought myself a new hard drive and installed Windows XP SP2 on it, and the DVD wont work. When I put a cd into it, the operating system basically hangs, although the mouse continues to work. I have to press the reset key.

I came to the conclusion that the DVD had failed so to test it I put back my original drive with Windows 200 on and it works fine.

Help! any ideas?

If you open My computer do you see both drivers listed? If not Right click on my computer, go to manage>disk management and make sure that both of the drivers are not sharing the same letter.
welcome to tsf

on your 2000 machine, was the dvd rom plugged in as a master device and was it on a stand alone cable to the motherboard?

Was this an upgrade from 200 to XP, or did you install XP clean? Upgrades are notorious for borking your hardware's usability.
