Anyone know how can I use the full capacity of a DVD disc. Although the dvd I bought is 4.7GB but the system only say it has 4.483GB. Where did the rest go?? :4-dontkno

I see some people can put in 1Gb file into a 700Mb CD. How do the do that?? -razz:

with either a ziptool, or some serious compression software.

for example, the knoppix cd has something like 1.8 or more gigs on a 700 meg cd, and it uses an on-the-fly compression system to do it.

winzip, or winrar, or any of those can greatly reduce the size of a file.

If your software is displaying 4.483G then it's using the decimal system, not the binary system.

If it's displaying 4483M then it's binary, and working right.

4483 Megabytes binary = 4,700,766,208 binary (approx 4.7 Gigabytes)

(and 4483 Megabytes decimal = 4.483 Gigabytes decimal)

mega = 1,000,000 (1 million) in the decimal base system
mega = 1,048,576 in the binary base system
