I have a dell Dimension 5150, and somewhere in the past 2 years it stopped reading dvd's, just cd's... (i did not have access to the computer but other people did) and no one knows why... how can i get it to read/burn dvd's again?

its the original burner that came with the computer

thanks for any help.

I'm not sure be aide I was out of the country when it happened... The computer recognizes it as a normal cd drive just not a DVD drive, and it can read CDs just not DVDs

You can make an attempt to clean the filters which may help (LOW PROBABILITY).

Kindly ignore the title and specifics - sometimes Microsoft are indeed idiots or just too lazy/cheap to post another 'fix' thread. Just try the fix.

If that doesn't fix the issue, be advised that 2 years on a laser are pretty good, given the cost and sources, so your DVD laser may just have crapped out!

People talk about buying laser cleaners. I think they are sold by laser makers. (sarcasm)
