Hi,

I have two problems with my DVD drive.
- When windows starts there is a good chance that the DVD drive will not appear in Windows Explorer, and the device manager shows that it's working properly. I have to restart my PC a few times before the DVD drive appears.
-Some DVD's are read as if they are empty, but all the data reads fine on other computers.

If anyone has any idea how this can be fixed I would greatly appreciate the help.

Thanks in advance.

I would start by trying the following.

Go into your Bios and see if it is listed in the drive section.

Check your cables, plugged in all the way, no damage.

Try a different cable.

Try a CD boot disk if you have one to see if it reads ok outside of windows.

Remove the Driver and reboot to let Windows re-detect the CDRom drive.

Is this a recent issue or has it been doing this from the start?

How old is the drive? They start losing their read head slide lubrication and the optics get dirty after a while.
