my liteon dvdrw will burn data cds and music cds but wont burn dvds or play them can anyone help :4-dontkno

There are two separate lasers in your drive. One for cds, one for dvds.
Sounds like your dvd side is either burnt out or obstructed.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the device? Also, if you have access to another PC...it may be an idea to try the optical drive in there to see if the same problem is present.

i uninstalled it and then reinstalled it and made no difference
and no i got no other comp to try it on

Are the DVDs you're attempting to play copied or originals?

both it wont even tell me theres a dvd in the drive
only works on music cds and blank cd cause i can burn music and data
just not dvds

Hmmm does sound a bit like a damaged drive. Replacing it depends on how much of a budget you have....some people prefer to have 2 separate burners these days whilst some prefer combo ones.

No probs....try looking in places like ebuyer.co.uk, scan.co.uk, overclockers.co.uk and even ebay.com. It all depends on where you're from as there will probably be more suitable local alternatives.
