Hi,

I usually just use 2 sticks of 2gb ram in a 4gb kit, but on this new pc, my friend had 2 sets of ram pairs. 2 gb (1gb x2) are from corsair, the other 2gb (1gbx2) from OCZ.

The frequencies are the same, both 800 - the mobo does support dual channel in this config :

Channel 0: DDR2_1, DDR2_3
Channel 1: DDR2_2, DDR2_4

I remember from my A+ reading that the sticks should be the same brand - but if the Corsairs stay on Channel1 and the OCZ stay on Channel 0, would that still work.

Well actually its been working for a while - i'm just curious if it would cause any issues.

RAM should all be the same brand AND the same specs. Mixing RAM is always a crap shoot and filling all of the slots can cause Voltage issues. A matched pair of 2X2GB is the best setup for 4GB.

Just so I understand completely - there were 4 gb kits, 2 x 2gb. There were also 2gb kits, 2 x 1 gb, on sale. The motherboard I was checking out had 4 slots - would it be okay to just purchase (2) * 2 gb kits, for a total of 4 gb (4 x 1gb) - even if it meant buying 2 kits of the same brand, spec, model?

e.g., buying 2 sets of this - to achieve 4 gb total.

I ask because I wasn't sure if the idea of 2 gb kit was exclusive to only 2gb, or if they can be combined.
