I put the hard drive from my old Packard Bell Easynote LJ71 into the body of my old VAIO (Mod No. VGN-FW31E)

All drivers except the USB controllers are updated and it's driving me mad, I just can't get the hardware to function

Any help in doing whatever needs doing would be aprreciated

No I need to keep my hard drive data intact as I cannot lose the files currently on it.

I'm now being notified that this copy of Windows is not genuine at any rate (although it is, being preinstalled on the hard drive)

You need to get your data off the drive as you cannot move your hard drive from one computer to another, as windows takes a snapshot of the hardware and drivers and when you boot from the drive the system begins looking for the drivers for the hardware it originally had, and dependent on the type of install done when windows was originally installed ie oem or retail the operating system could be tied to the original motherboard
