I am having some issue with my laptop. I have a Sony VAIO model VPCF13YFX. I have been unable to update to the latest drivers. I have tried the latest drivers (314.22) and I am having difficulties. During the installation process once the display goes black it stays black. I have to continuously roll back the drivers to an earlier version. Sony states that they support the 425M so I don't understand. I have successfully installed the 306.23 driver. My BIOS are the latest available.

I supposed they may have changed something that screwed with my laptop. I usually keep drivers up to date. I have not ever had a problem in the past.

All drivers for OEM PC/laptops should be obtained from the unit's manufacturer. The chipset manufacturer's drivers are intended for the retail versions.
Driver updates are rarely actually needed.

Some drivers may not be essential to update. When it comes to something like video drivers they more than often include performance enhancements for games. They may be considered essential for good performance.

That's a possibility but not the norm. OEM manufacturer's don't continue support like retail versions. They are in the business of selling new units so upgrades are not their primary concerns.
