I want to thank the folks that answered my question on a reliable 500GB drive. However, I realize I should really ask the question that took me there, maybe I don't need a new drive. On the computer in question (PC, WinXP), the drive activity light is blinking on at about a 1HZ rate. I examined the process queue and there appears to be no process taking CPU cycles in the computer. The computer operation does not appear to be affected. I really told the client that I didn't think there was anything to do, but he thought he needed a new disk anyhow. I'll probably get him one as his is about three years old, but would like to solve the real problem if I can. Has anyone any experience with this action, or is there more information that you need?
Thanks
