hi and welcome to TSF before you try to downgrade you eed to research wether you can get all the drivers for xp to work on your machine you can do that at hp support website. win7 is rc so not finished yet so may not suit your needs as you mention company

If it worked with Vista then it should work with 7.
7 is more efficient than Vista and drivers "should" be readily available but I would advice verifying that before proceeding.

I found out the hard way that the HP dv5 is not supported for XP. I have noticed that all of the laptop makers produce 2 distinct product classes; consumer and business. While business PCs are offered with 'Vista Business downgradeable to XP Pro', consumer PCs are sold only with some version of Vista Home. If you can find drivers from the manufacturers of the individual components you MAY be able to downgrade it. Many components built into your machine may be specifically designed for that machine laeding to some compatibility problems when using a 'standard' driver from Intel, Nvidia, etc. I am also concerned that the BIOS may be optimized for best performance in the Vista environment leading to any number of problems from subtle quirks to total failure.
For these reasons I, myself, am unwilling to risk it. Instead I will eventually upgrade to Windows 7.
