Anybody familiar with DOS4NTFS?

Here's the whole sad tale... My Toshiba Satellite A30's DC input plug ground connection fell out. (1 month past warrantee). In the process of coming loose it probably arced for a short time. Before souldering a new plug on the motherboard I stripped the whole thing down and slaved the drive to an old C666 system running XP that I keep in my shop. The drive was inaccessable. chkdsk reported that the MFT was corrupted. I then booted the system with a floppy containing DOS4NTFS which should be able to fix the MFT with a non Microsoft version of checkdisk. It reported an UMB error described as "Exception: 0E, Error Code: 0004". This, I believe, applies to my computer not the HDD in question. Does anybody know what to do to "fix" this error?

By the way, I know I can recover the data on the drive and use the factory recovery CDs. The DOS4NTFS was supposed to be a quick and free solution. Now it's personal...I will not surrender to this digital demon!
